Layering is the key!

I added yet another layer to my outdoor wear today. I put the shell on my jacket, since the windchill today was going to this -7C. Working next to a big mass of water (lake Ontario) during the wintertime is bad, mmmkay? I also added a third layer to my bed.

Lisette and I didn't end up hanging together last week, aww well - she is coming to Amys party on friday.. yay!

I am going to be going to an army surplus store tonight to see if I can pick up some clothes/props for my costume. Yup, i'm going as an army guy!

33 Days until trip to whistler, yipee!

I am going to be getting my flu shot next week. They (some third party health care service) is coming to my work to give us the shots. This will be my first one. I figured " what the hell" since they are coming to my desk to give it to me.

Not a lot else to report. I am most likely going to be getting my boots on friday. Which will be my last snowboarding related purchase. Except for maybe a toque.

Stay tuned for two new websites to be launched within the next two-three weeks.

Sping Back, Fall Forward!

Daylight Savings starts tonight.

It's been a crazy week.

I found out on Thursday that my boss had been fired. That came to a huge shock to me. Natually, I was concerned about my job security. There was a meeting about it yesterday. Things are going to continue as normal, so I am employed until April - where my contract is up for renewal.

As well, some retarted script kiddie decided it would be "fun" to smurf my box I have hosted at 151. He was able to pump in 300mbit before the big boys null-routed my ip address. That just added to the stress of the week.

I havn't heard from Liz at all on Friday, and she spent the day with her Sisters on Thursday. So I didn't get to see the girl either this "weekend".

Some good did come out of this. I booked my trip to Whistler yesterday :D Just need to wait to hear back from whistler people. I will be getting my itinerary via email soon :)

There are so many little projects in my mind that I want to get started. Appleseed is still a go, I am waiting for stuff to arrive. I also got my lcd back from James, so I want to finish up my mp3 player. I have two 1U cases sitting, waiting to be filled with hardware.

My new travel website is almost done. I'm pretty impressed with my self with the database and php I used to whip it together. Take a look at this killer SQL query I use:

<br /> SELECT to_char((date at time zone '$timezone')::timestamptz,'Dy, Mon DD, YYYY HH24:MI:SS \"$timezone\"'), title, myjournal.id,substring(data from 0 for 300),<br /> (date - startdate)+'1 day' AS daynumber FROM myjournal, traveldates WHERE startdate = (SELECT startdate FROM traveldates ORDER BY (CURRENT_DATE - <br /> enddate) LIMIT 1 OFFSET 1) AND date >= (SELECT startdate FROM traveldates WHERE region=(SELECT Region FROM traveldates ORDER BY (CURRENT_DATE - <br /> enddate) LIMIT 1 OFFSET 1)) AND date <= (SELECT enddate FROM traveldates WHERE region=(SELECT Region FROM traveldates ORDER BY (CURRENT_DATE - <br /> enddate) LIMIT 1 OFFSET 1))+'1 day'::interval ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 1;<br />
$timezone is a php variable that I use. Here is the explain output.
<br /> Limit (cost=0.00..11.07 rows=1 width=1029) (actual time=26.91..27.26 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> InitPlan<br /> -> Limit (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=1 width=8) (actual time=0.25..0.26 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> -> Sort (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=2 width=8) (actual time=0.22..0.23 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=2 width=8) (actual time=0.06..0.08 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=1 width=4) (actual time=0.83..0.84 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> InitPlan<br /> -> Limit (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=1 width=20) (actual time=0.58..0.60 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> -> Sort (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=2 width=20) (actual time=0.56..0.57 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=2 width=20) (actual time=0.11..0.13 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=1 width=4) (actual time=0.45..0.46 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> InitPlan<br /> -> Limit (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=1 width=20) (actual time=0.36..0.37 rows=1 loops=1)<br /> -> Sort (cost=1.03..1.03 rows=2 width=20) (actual time=0.34..0.35 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=2 width=20) (actual time=0.05..0.23 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Nested Loop (cost=0.00..335.81 rows=30 width=1029) (actual time=26.89..27.23 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Index Scan Backward using myjorunal_date_key on myjournal (cost=0.00..304.41 rows=30 width=1025) (actual time=26.26..26.38 rows=2 loops=1)<br /> -> Seq Scan on traveldates (cost=0.00..1.02 rows=1 width=4) (actual time=0.18..0.18 rows=1 loops=2)<br /> Total runtime: 27.82 msec<br />
Not very efficient, but it does the job and this isn't a super busy website.

'nuff geek talk for today :)

*Yawn* Stretch! What a week!

It's been a busy four days! Here's the low-down.

Thursday and Friday was Blake 'n Liz days :) We saw Stomp at the Elgin Theater on Yonge Street. It was a really, really, good show. There wasn't a story. It was more like a concert with different songs using different "instruments". They used anything from a box of matches, to zippos, water cooler jugs, brooms, dustpans, and even the kitchen sink to make music :) Our seats were pretty good :)

We then headed to The Grand. A really, really, really nice hotel. We spent the night there and enjoyed the luxary (and the big bed ;) ).

Got up at 8:30 (dont ask me why) and had a super tasty brekky! mmmyummy. Then headed home where I took care of some paperwork. Went to bed early, as I was going to need to be well rested for the weekend!

After work on Saturday, the gang (Arden, Gord, Mark, and I) headed out to the Ski and Snowboard show. I was hoping to get a pair of boots, no dice. Gord hit the motherload and got a bag, pants, and boots. :D We spent a few hours, checking out the wares and the girls ;) There were some pretty nice snow bunnies... uNF!

It was off to the hotel and to get some food. Grabbed some McDonalds (naturally) and headed to The Grand to meet up with the guy who had tickets to the party. We chilled there for about an hour or so, watched the hockey game (Leafs tied, not bad). Literally chilled on the roof for a while while the boys had a smoke.

We headed to the party, which was at the opera house on Queen Street. Lots of free swag was given away! I was able to snag a bunch of stickers, a stomp pad, and a leash. Mark was able to yoink a Sims T-Shirt (damn you!). We didn't snag any of the free Snowboards or Snowskates. Aww well, had a wicked time anyways. Not to mention the two naked Coors Light ladies in painted on latex outfits.

We stumbled back to the hotel (after getting more McDonalds) where Arden decided it would be wise to start trashing the room. Bouncing off the beds, knocking over lamps ("I love you lampy"). He felt a little artistic and used his burger as a paintbrush, and the mirror as canvass. He added the final masterpeice by whipping the McDonalds bag (now full of garbage) at the mirror, breaking it. Mark and I were trying to get him to settle down. In traditional Arden Drukeness, he decideds to dissapear. Only today (sunday morning, at work), did I find out he drove home, in his druken stupor.

Trying to sleep was another adventure. Gord's snoring kept mark awake, mark's huffing and puffing about Gord's snoring, kept me a awake. All in all I got 4 hours of sleep on the clock. In reality, probably close to 2.75 or 3.

Fuck, i'm tired.

Snip, snip, snip!

I had one of the best workouts today.

I also got a case for my phone (finally) and I really like it! Its not leather, but a suede-like material. Dark grey, which compliments my phone excellently. I also got my hair cut today. Well "cut" is an exaggeration. More like a trim. I like it a lot actually. I want to grow it just a little bit longer - keep my head worm for the winter months.

This week at work as been .. uhmm..err.. "blah". I havn't really had the same enthousim for the work has I had in the past 8 months. Things seem to be quieter than normal, and only boring work has surfaced.

I think I found out why the army hasn't been involved to try to solve the sniper shootings. They would have to invoke marshall law, since its against the law for the army to arrest civilians. (or something like that).

Meh! must get back to work!

Another shot in the head.

The US Sniper attacked again today, killing an off duty FBI Agent (sorry Mark it was the wife, not the husband). This guy has balls.

Mark and I were discussing why the hell they just dont bring the national guard in this. I'm not sure of US Laws, but attacking an FBI agent (maybe its different because she was off duty and didn't have any visible "FBI" markings) will now make this a Federal Problem. In which case, this guy is even more fucked then he was yesterday. If I was him, I would stop now - while he's ahead.

Had an alright workout today. Was busy in the Gym. Everyone working off their Turkey Dinners. I'm actually starting to see some muscle mass increase, yay! I really want to be able to snowboard all night, without being stiff the next day :) Plus, I am definately going to need to be stronger to pull some tricks this year (especially with my new, bigger board).

I also tried to get a case for my phone today. Radio Shack didn't have any in stock, there should be some tomorrow.

Thursday and Friday I am booked solid (sorry gord, no Dinner Thursday night). I can't say whats going on, because its a surprise for Lisette. All will be revelaed in Friday Nights journal entry.

Dumb bitches who do their make-up while driving piss me off! I almost got into an accident today at Yonge/Wellington because some old biatch in a shitty 80s Jaguar didn't check her mirrors when changing lanes. Why you ask? because she was putting on makeup! God damn hoe-bag.

Blah! New menu means updating chinook POS system. I really wish my mom would do it her self. All these years as a kid you mom/dad always says "so what, when your 40 years old, you are going to call us to come over to tie your shoe laces?". Same principle applies here.

Work is pretty quiet... time going slowly.

Turkey, Tv, Temperature

w00t! I finally get to sleep in tomorrow morning :)

It's been a pretty uneventful Thanksgiving. Headed over to the cousins place for turkey dinner. Was there for a few hours, then decided to head home to watch Band Of Brothers with Gord.

The free lottery ticket I got with my "Grown Up Happy Meal" didn't win me anything. I got 2 of 6 numbers. Bleh.

I have been spending most of the night inputting my older journal entries into my journal database. That coupled with watching "Panic Room" with my parents, and drinking frutopia, is the highlight of my day!

Liz called me yesterday, but got my voice mail. I was hoping she would reply to the email I sent her this morning, but nothing yet. We were talking about New Years/Christmas plans. One of the plans is to spend a weekend in Ottawa.

Outside Temp. is getting in the single digits now. Today, it didn't get any warmer than 9C. Frost in the morning, when I get up too! Can't wait for that white fluffy stuff to start falling down :)

Digido (ex-employer from Ausralia) fired off an email to me a few days ago. Just wondering what was up... I have a feeling they may have some work for me to do.

I am writing this entry from my new "workplace" at home. I love this chair, its so comfertable! I did update my project appleseed website, this time with some photos! My plan is to get everything up and running this weekend. However I am still missing a video card.

Sue, updates please! :)

No! It doesn't mean "idea"

I was in the middle of setting up my desk and chair that I got from Ikea (it's a name of a person [its founder] and prounounced "ick-yeeaah" not "eye-kee-aah") when Mark decided to call me back. They were at East Side Marios!

*zoom zoom*

Had tasty Lasagna with Bryna, Gord, and Mark then headed over to Gords house where I watched "Meet The Parents" (last time I saw that, was in Perth with Chrissy).

Came back home and finished up with the assembly of Ikea goods. Looks pretty snappy. It would look even more snappier in my brothers old room (right now the stuff is in the other guestroom). I totally want to redo that room, there are so many things I saw last week at Ikea that would suit it well. I will have to convince my mom to let me use that room instead (since it already has ethernet too).

I had originally thought that I was heading over to my counsins place tomorrow, alas my mom meant today. That's fine, I didn't have any plans anyways. Will be nice to see how much the kids have grown! Not to mention the new house they bought.

Speaking of housing... I had gotten a lead for a place on King street last week. She was supposed to get back to me with her details, but never did. Ahh well.

Travel website coming along slowly but surely. Since its so "dynamic", I have to do 3 or 4 times the work. For example, I have a few different headers that appear when you load the page, so I have to treat each image, slice it, save it, etc.. Adobe ImageReady is good!

I think I am going to have to install windows for my mp3 player. I should be getting the LCD back from James Tuesday or Wednesday. I have been playing with the winamp plugin on my laptop (it comes with an emulator). It's super powerful and James says it works with the LCD. Once its in place, the box will pretty much be finished.

The people I bought my latest 1U case from decided to ship a cdrom and floppy to me, since it didn't come with the case as advertised - yay! Also CBC sent me an invoice for the duty charges, not a biggie, and I was expecting it.

I subscribed to yet another mailing list. "Macweenies" this time. It's a list about Mac hardware and such. You can find the archives here. For those if you in the know, I hope "Marklar" really is true :D

Already in the mid way point for October! 1 month left for me to park on the street. Come November 15th, I am going to have to start parking in the garage or risk a fine.

And last but not least, plans for going to the Ski and Snowboard show this Saturday are still a go. Not sure how we are going to arrange car/travel, especially since I am already in the city. I'm sure things will go smoothly.

Phew! Everything back to normal.

It was a craaazy day at work today! Busy busy busy!

Gord got a forum up and running on his website. Some pretty heated discussion going on. Going to be interesting to see how long its going to stay alive :)

I lied today! I told sarah that I couldn't go to dinner with her tomorrow night, cause I wanted to chill with Gord instead. My lie? "That I had to help my mom at the restaurant". eeep!

Going to be cold and rainy tomorrow - fall is definately here now! Yesterday the guy on the radio said there was some northern lights. I didn't get to see them though, cause it was cloudy outside! Tomorrow is supposed to be the best night for them. Solar trasit is pretty bad this time around (CNN was all fuzzy today at work). YAAAAY Solar Flares.

Back to the old...

I couldn't figure out a new design for this website, so I decided on going back to the old *sigh*.

I do need a new event to count down to. Any suggestions?

I cant wait until thursday/friday. Lisette has those two days off and so do I! Yipee!

So quiet at work.. meh.

Probably going out to dinner with Sarah on Wednesday.

MmMM Spaghetti!

Nothing new and exciting.

Liz and I went out to dinner last night. Went to The Old Spaghetti Factory. Was good! Tobad for the rain, because we were enjoying a nice walk along front st./the esplanade.

You can never find tylonol when you need it.
