My laptop, not girlfriend.
Monday, March 31, 2003 - 02:03:25 Permalink | On this day in 2001 Mac during the day. Windows in bed! That seems to be the latest trend. I've been using Apple Seed for my desktop, while I sleep with Mia ;) Chilled with Eric and Mark on Friday night after work. Just killed time, nothing special. Saturday slept in and chilled with Alex. Then headed down to Alvins place (a friend of Mark and Damon) with Eric, Mark, and Damon. I had a good time. It was nice to meet all the Sheridan people Mark always talked about. It's amazing, even at 22/23, people still dont know the limit of their alcohol tolerance. My respect for someone who's past out isn't very high. Didn't end up getting home until 4am though - Good times by all. Sunday was a bust. Only because I slept in until 2pm. I headed over to Gords place to geek it up. He wanted to see my laptop. Then we headed to see a movie. We saw "Tears of the Sun" with Bruce Willis. It was an alright movie - 6/10. Had some good action in it.. some slow parts though. It's another movie that tries to show the world how fucked some countries are. It's a shame that most people will just forget about it as soon as they leave the theather. I really feel like writing a nice commentary now. However, I don't have the energy. Must sleep. Mia, back in my arms! Friday, March 28, 2003 - 00:03:36 Permalink | On this day in 2001 I have my new laptop now! *hugs it tightly* It's pretty speedy! Although getting used to the shitty sound and small screen is going to be hard. Andy referred to my purchase as "cross-grading". Which is neither upgrading (to the new P4 2Ghz and 40GB hard drive), nor downgrading (to the shitty sound and 1024*768 screen). I thought that was a clever term :) iPod should be arriving tomorrow. I'm glad that I got the Mac version now, because my laptop doesn't have a firewire port, like my old one did. I've already ripped a lot of my cds, so its a matter of just copying them over. I do need to get a copy of the Black Hawk Down Soundtrack and the Return Of Saturn No Doubt album off someone as my copies are fubared. heh.. its funny how "setup will complete in approximately: 37 minutes" nomatter how fast your computer is. I also got a nice jacket from work a few days ago. It wasn't because of my hard work or because I was a good employee. I just happen to be at the right place at the right time. My boss' boss was cleaning out his office in prep for the move and found the jacket. It didn't happen to fit him, or the other two people he offered it to before me. I guess being 5'9 paid off. hmm almost 1am.. I should sleep. Bitten by the bug once again! Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 21:03:08 Permalink | On this day in 2001 | On this day in 2000 The Great Canadian Adventure is my latest travel scheme. I only thought of it today, but think it would be a great way to see the country. Sure it's not exotic as visiting Europe or Asia - but it sure is cheaper! The whole plan was to take "The Canadian" - a train service offered by Via Rail from Toronto to Vancouver. The 3 day train trip will allow me to hop on and off at various cities as I wished. Once arriving at Banff, I would hop on to another train: "The Skeena" and head up to Prince Rupert. Another alternative would be to head north from Winnipeg on "The Hudson Bay" to well..uhmm.. The Hudson Bay :P What I was hoping was being able to take the train all the way up to Yellowknife or Whitehorse. I wonder what kind of flight service Air Canada has from Prince Rupert. Sue.. maybe we can do this together *when* you visit Canada? :P Refuge! Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 18:03:53 Permalink | On this day in 2000 Its been a crazy week at work. Today is my only day of rest before I am thrown back into the trenches. I had a great time Thursday night. Chi, who is a Techy from Google came to work and installed our new 5005. He then invited myself and a coworker out for dinner. I had a great time. It was nice to be able to get an inside view of how things work over there. Although he did have to hold his tongue because of various NDAs. He also said I was pretty famous over there. I don't know why! I was flattered though. He took my picture and gave me some swag (a nice white Google polo shirt). If my contract doesn't get renewed at CBC, I know where I am going to apply. Last night I had dinner with Gord and Bryna. Then got trashed and a drunken discussion on current events. I always have fun on nights like that. It's great! I always feel a new sense of friendship and bonding after such nights. I also noticed Bryna's attitude was a little different towards me - it was good. I didn't feel that odd "tension" that I feel when it's just Bryna and Me (because Gord had to be temporarily removed from the room ;) ). I'm going white water rafting this summer! w00t w00t! So far I'm going with Alex, Amanda, Gord, Bryna, and my brother. Maybe Mark will come along? I think its going to be great. Two days on the river, camping, drinking, and having a good time. I'm hoping I can get the time off work. I better jet. It's 6pm and still light out side :) I love it! It's also raining too! I want to go outside and enjoy this time of day before it gets dark. Watched "Bourne Identity" with my brother - urge to travel has been re-ignited once again. Overtime here I come! Monday, March 17, 2003 - 23:03:44 Permalink | On this day in 2005 This is funny (and happened at work): Co-Worker: We need that software as soon as possible so that we can get these servers up before the war starts We all cracked up laughing. It was the highlight of our days. It's amazing how much bloat is due to Javascript and CSS. We were able to decrease the number of hits a second to the webservers by at least 150 but getting Akamai to cache js and css files for 10 minutes. Bye bye blue! Sunday, March 16, 2003 - 12:03:16 Permalink | On this day in 2000 Gord, Mark, Alex, Amanda and I all headed up to Blue Mountain yesterday for some nice spring snowboarding. It was great! Sun was out, temps were warm, and the snow was fast! I have a crap load of pics (over 50), be sure to check them out. Some fucker hit my *parked* car yesterday while I was at Blue. I'm pissed. Mark and Gord assure me it will just "buff out", but I doubt it. Probably set me back another few hundred dollars. I already spent $550 on getting my Brakes fixed. The retards at the dealership also didn't make sure my wheels were balanced either. I have this nasty steering wheel wobble happening at lower speeds. I also checked the air pressure in my tires - 30psi. 4psi higher than the manual suggest. I'm sure the mechanic was on crack. More hassal and my time wasted to get it fixed. Now watch the dealership say "oh its you're fault! you got into an accident" as he points to the scape along the side of my car caused by that ass hole hitting my parked car. I'm not in a good mood. Spent so much money this month, its incredible. My savings is down to $1500 (from $3500) on shit that can totally be avoided. I'm due for a speeding ticket anytime soon :/ Remember back in november (journal entry) when I was apartment hunting. Well I never ended up moving there. However *two* rooms have become available May 1st. I am seriously considering moving there. I just need to find out some numbers (just to double check that I can afford it) and take another look at the place. I'm hoping Mark will move into the other room. It would be so good for both of us. Close to work, right in the city. One of my biggest worries is paying $1000/mo. for a shit hole in the middle of no where. This place is really nice and is only around ~$650. Located at King and John (for those of you who know Toronto). I think I am going to bust out my bike Tomorrow. It's in the mid teens today and Tomorrow. iamakamai Thursday, March 13, 2003 - 22:03:48 Permalink | On this day in 2005 So the fruits of my labours the past week and a half finally came to a joyus end today at work. One of the really cool things that Akamai offers, is the real time reporting. My favorite is the world map that shows you in real time where people are coming from when they visit the website. Because of the launch, I have to be at work tomorrow (which is normally my day off). Just need to make sure logging and stuff is going smoothly. The only advantage is that I get next Thursday off. Wicked three day weekend :D Thats good because I am going over to Taryns place for dinner :D w00t w00t w00t. I can't wait to hit the slopes on Saturday. I'm going to be bringing the 'ole digicam. Going to take some snaps of one of the last rides of the season. It's going to be hard to top last weekends though. I feel fat! Monday, March 10, 2003 - 19:03:45 Permalink Got up this morning and I felt like all the gymming (is that a word) I have been doing for the past 6 months have gone to waste from all the shitty food I ate on the weekend. This week I am going to blitz cardio! I only went twice last week, instead of the normal 3 times :/ The weekend was great. Got $300 in new clothes! I love these quicksilver jeans!! They are so comfortable.. I really didn't care that I spent over $80 on them. Sheena helped me pick out my new clothes, she was a lot of help too :) We all went out on Friday night for food. Had a good time considering we left East Side Marios after ordering...hehe. Long story, but the serving staff was being way rude to us so we left. Saturday was GREAT. Slept in after having some DELICIOUS hot chocolate at Marks place. Spiked with tasty Baileys. It was white hot chocolate to boot! We headed up to Blue mountain. Got on the slopes at 5:30 (after stopping at a rather dissapointing snowboard shoppe on the way up). Instant smile on both of our faces. The powder was increidible. The snow kept on falling, and falling and falling. It was as if the hill was regroomed each time we came off the chair lift for another line down the mountain. The place was empty too! The fresh snow was a catalyst to my progression. Im comfertable riding switch now (riding switch is akin to writing with your other hand) which is a good bonus for the 180s. I'm also able to do 180s now without falling. Granted not as crisp as Mark's but getting there. I was also trying to do a switch 180 (when you go off the jump riding switch). All three attempts landed a face plant. I still dont feel comfertable doing a backside 180 yet. Maybe this weekend? Both my work and personal to-do list is growing quickly. Yesterday I started working on Project: Maestro. Found a few more bugs that need to be worked out. Specifically with the md5 hasing I do on the mp3 files. One of the ways I ensure that the mp3 hasn't already been uploaded is that I record an md5 fingerprint on the file. The problem is that I shell out to do this (instead of using a perl module.. which is the right way(tm) ) and some file names contained non alpha numeric characters. Of course they wern't being escaped and the md5 program couldn't find the proper file to fingerprint. I hope to get the server in a "write only" mode soon. This way people can only upload their mp3s and see whats available - downloading will be available as soon as all the write operatations have been fully tested. I might also be attending a Jehovah's Witness meeting/gathering with Taryn this week or next. I'm really curious about the religion and I hope this is a good way to learn more about it. She's also going to hook me up with some reading material too! w00t w00t. postoffice.infiniteloop.ca is coming along nicely. I will most likely be moving mail accounts tonight (when i'm done work) or tomorrow after work. Gord is going to be my guinea pig. On the work side of things. Akamai has been delayed a week.. thats good. Last week was insane to get things out the door for Monday. Turns out we ran into a few snags (specifically with the streaming components). However, if war breaks loose.. we are turning Akamai on within 10 minutes. We're ready! There is also something funny with the google reports the past week or so. Someone seems to be sending the same search query to cbc.ca/search over and over and over again. I've been asked to take a look into it to see whats up. I suspect it's legit (ie someone wanting to see if any new information as been updated) however the frequency is almost to the point of being an attack. I haven't heard any comments about the new website.. so I guess thats a good thing. Last time I made a change most of the comments were negative. No news is good news eh? This new look is only temporary. I plan on getting something a litte more exciting up soon. Tobad its close to the bottom of my to-do list. My attempt to use iCal has failed. I don't think i'm busy enough to use it. Also nobody else I know (except Mark and Sue) would actually be willing to import my calendar into their iCal either (so you can see when im free/busy). Gord did something unexpected.. but cool on Sunday. He just showed up to my house outta the blue. I was a nice surprise. So we ended up chatting for a few hours. I was talking to Michelle today as well. She gave me some good advice on girls and relationships :) She also wanted me to check out a movie called "The Tahoe of Steve". Hopefully it will provide some insight into the depths of the female psyche. I might also be meeting Sarah at Chinook for dinner tomorrow after workout. So thats good. I haven't seen her in a while either. It will be nice to catch up. It's also Chinooks 1 year anniversary next Tuesday too. Going to be a mini party... I have to be there for that. Crapfully Yours Thursday, March 6, 2003 - 23:03:13 Permalink | On this day in 2005 I was bored, so I whipped up a new website.. check it out (www.stuckinsideout.net). I was hoping to chill with Sheena tonight, that didn't pan out.. grrr. I didn't end up going to the gym either. bleh! Not sure what I am going to do tomorrow... maybe do some much needed cleaning. Oh yeah, Laundry is in order too. l33+ 4k4Ma| Wednesday, March 5, 2003 - 21:03:13 Permalink Geek factor totally increased one thousand percent today when we got the test domain set up for Akamai stuff. In Toronto test.www.cbc.ca is: 199.232.61.158 So it all works! But there is still a lot more to do :( Process the new logs from Akamai, and get ready to go live on Monday (so when you type www.cbc.ca you will be sent to the akamai servers).. w00t w00t. I was so excited when I we got the test domain up and running.. Just a lot of hard work to prep for it. I spent over 30 min on the phone with Sheena today :D Not to mention the fact I talked to her at work for a few hours too (On MSN). We are probably going to hang out tomorrow night after work. Thats good.. one-on-one time :) This weekend is shaping up nicely too. Party at her house (maybe), then snowboarding on Saturday. w00t w00t. Unfortunately its a Bryna and Gord weekend, so I wont be seeing much of him this weekend. Just rambling on... Monday, March 3, 2003 - 23:03:30 Permalink | On this day in 2001 Stress level at work quickly rising. Shit has to get done, but I don't want to do it. Boring shell scripts and log analyzing. Bleh. It should hopefully all be done next week. Good news is that the new Google Search Appliance (the 5005 model) is arrving in two weeks. To top it all off, Google Techs are going to come and visit! I can't wait. Met the new boss today. Not as geeky as I'd hoped :( He didn't even budge when I offered him to set up a normal SMTP/IMAP email account instead of using his Novell Groupwise account. I hope that changes though :) The earliest I could bring my car in the shop is 2 weeks from now! My breaks are still fucked up too :/ I'm going to try to take it easy with it, thank god I take the train in now! Thinking of new website redesign... more things need to get done before though. I'm also thinking of splitting up my journals. One for the geek in me, and one for the not-so-geek. I've noticed i've started slipping on the "must eat healthy" idea. I'm noticing i'm eating a lot more "bad fast food" lately. I also need to start making my lunch for work... can save me a shitload of money. Connivence vs. Health. Tomorrow will be good though, because I will be heading to the gym. I can't make it on Mondays because of my work Schedule. Ever since the weekend, someone's been on my mind more and more. I just hope I can spend some one-on-one time with her this week. It's come down to the point where every time I hear the "you have new mail" sound, I drop everything and click on the little mail.app icon to see if she e-mailed me. I've been disappointed all day :/ Laura redid her site. Jason also did. According to alexa.com blakecrosby.com is in 2,985,825th place based on traffic. And my website has been up since May 1999. My thinkgeek order arrived on Thursday. That was speedy. I got this, this, and this. In fact, I think I will wear the "I Didn't Get the Memo" one tomorrow. Listening to Chicane reminds of me my place in Glebe, AU. Remind me not to listen to it in the car anymore by my self ;) I think thats enough for tonight. |
