20/20

Melissa (and the glasses store lady) was shocked when I told them i've never had an eye exam. I decided to do a little research (as I normally do). I found a page that describes what they are going to do during the exam (sounds interesting). Somehow I already knew this, but totally forgot and didn't put two and two together: You can discover things like high blood pressure, diabetes, MS, and other illnesses by having a routine eye exam.

I don't have routine physicals at the doctor either... Guess it's time to start doing both!

On the weekend I did: Skating, Snowboarding, Bowling, and a poker game. Action packed as usual.

New website design is coming along nicely. Dont ask me when i'm going to get it done though.

Tours, Clubs, Lacross

Tod Maffin gave another tour to a few people at CBC Vancouver. I give the videographer credit for trying to make it "interesting" with the quick cuts and hip hop music.. but it's still CBC ;)

Watch it!

The Toronto Rock game last night was fun. It was the first time I was in the ACC, so it added to the excitment. The plan was to meet up with Melissa after the game at a "bar" (so I was told). Turned out to be a club with a no running shoes dress code. So I left.

Plans for snowboarding tomorrow night are up in the air, since Mark is now going today with Laura. However Courtney is back in town this weekend, not sure if she brought her snowboard gear or not. I can also ask a few other people if they want to go.

One thing I hate about MT, is that it uses the date you first started working on your entry, rather than the date you actually post it as the "posted date". Lame, since I can spend hours writing an entry.

iPod green with envy

I don't normally promote CBC websites, but this one is really interesting. It's all about religions. A great primer about Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judiasm, and Sikhism. The world map is interesting too, which shows you the distribution of each religion around the world.

I spent about an hour today going to various big box stores to see if I can get my hands on a Green iPod mini today. No dice. So I ordered it off Apple's website. Should be here in 1-2 weeks.

CBC is on a hiring blitz out west. This is for the new Radio 3 set up. Also there is one position in my department: Design Team Lead. Also an interesting position in the marketing department called DVD Producer.

I have an idea (in my head) for a new website design. Might start it this weekend. Tonight i'm going to a Toronto Rock (lacross), tomorrow will be spent downtown with Melissa skating at Nathan Phillips Square. Sunday might involve some snowboarding.

Incase you are bored...and want to get up early.

"Tomorrow morning, Friday, February 25th, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., RCI/Radio Canada International invites you to come down to the Atrium to enjoy a coffee and muffin-and help celebrate their 60th Anniversary. The first 200 people to come by will be given an RCI coffee mug."

You can find the Atrium at 205 Wellington Street West (the CBC building)

Too bad I dont care for a mug.

Too bad I dont get into work until after 9am.

Too bad i'm off tomorrow.

Viva!

So I saw a banner near the mall the other day boasting a new Rapid Transit system for York Region called Viva.

At first I was impressed. Real time tracking of busses. That way when you are at a bus shelter (or Vivastations as they call them) you know exactly how long before a bus arrives. Signal priority and dedicated lanes will allow the busses to stick to their "every 10 min" schedule during rush hour.

Even the busses look pimp.

Then I saw the route map. Disapointed. How good is a rapid transit system that only services Yonge Street? (and Highway 7). I guess the key here is "rapid" and not "flexible".

Check out their pretty snazzy website for more info.

I'm meeting Missy for lunch tomorrow. Also going to give her a whirlwind tour around work.

Everyone seems to be impressed with the starry photos Mark and I took while at Kicking Horse this year. I'm going to be taking more of those this summer.

I really need a new site design, but can't think of anything cool.

Post Vacation Depression Disorder

I'm back! Vacation out west (no, not Whistler) was awesome. In case you haven't seen last years video, check it out. I'm sure it will take Mark another year to edit this years ;) Photos will be in the gallery in the next few days as I organize them all.

So I come home to some things I need to take care of in the next few days/weeks:

1. Got a letter from the Condo people saying that my closing date has been pushed back from Sept 19th to Dec 20th, 2005. Three months later. Bad because I wanted to move out before the winter started (ie, not have to deal with the parking shuffle we have to do each year). It's good because it gives me yet more time to save up for the things I want.

2. Got a phone call from VW. I only have 4 payments left on my lease. So they were wondering if I wanted to buy the car, or if I wanted to "get [my self] into a new Volkswagen". I told him to put together some scenarios for me to see what he can come up with. Apparently "with the deals on now" I can get a Jetta for pretty cheap. Ideally I dont want to have to carry another lease again. My plan right now is to buy the car and drive it into the ground.

3. The bank called me. They finally figured out that I was no longer a student (only took them 4 years). So they wanted to move me to a different monthly plan. I figured I would also hit her up about RRSPs, loan (for the car), and even a mortgage... incase they can give me a better deal than RBC is with my condo.

Melissa is coming over sometime today, excited to see her. Not sure what we are going to do though. I have to take care of some other things too, like going to the bank, the post office, etc.. Maybe she can come along for the ride.

I hopped onto my works IRC server to see if anyone was around. Looks like I have my work cut out for me when I get back on Monday :) I'm being vigilant and making sure not to check my work email at all this weekend :)

Experimenting, Amazing Races, BC

The Ebay Experiment was a success! Someone purchased the digital photo for $2. This proves that anyone will buy anything on ebay!

Leaving for BC on Friday! Can't wait! Melissa was complaining that she wouldn't be able to have sex for the week that i'm gone. I've asked her to keep track of her "chocolate" cravings. I'm interested in seeing if there is a direct correlation between chocolate intake and sex (she says that she doesn't crave chocolate any more). I love experiments!

I have this urge to create some stop motion videos. Not sure of what though :(

If I won the lottery, i'd create my own "Amazing Race". Invite all my friends to participate, two people per team. We'd have to travel around the world, just like in the tv show. The only difference is that there wont be silly activities (road blocks/detours as they call them). They'd all be cool challenging stuff (like the one where they parachuted out of a plane and landed in the ocean on a sand bar).I think thats a good use of a few million dollars!

Can you tell the difference? Boob or Butt?

An Ebay Experiment

Mark and I are trying to answer the question: "Will anyone buy *anything* on Ebay?!". We thought we'd put it to the test by trying to sell a digital picture we took while in Tahoe. Opening Bid... $2. Any bets on if its going to sell or not?

Tomorrow i'm going to do a "day in the life of Blake" pictorial. Tomorrow should be interesting too, since I will be going to the Sum 41 concert at The Docks. I also want to do a "Twenty Four Hours in the Newsroom" time lapse video. I want the camera to pan during the shoot as well. I dont have the equipment to do it automatically though. So I worked it out that for a 40 second (at 30 frames a second) video i'd have to take a photo every 5 minutes, pan the camera 1 degree, for 10 hours. Guess I can call it "10 hours in 40 seconds" instead.

Tod Maffin did a video tour of CBC Vancouver. He works in radio. One of the first guys he meets in the video (Bert Cervo) helped me with the installation of the new Vancouver and Victoria live radio streams.
