Doctor Who?

So they caught the guy that leaked the Dr. Who episode! A few people in my department at work were charged with looking into trying to track down who the guy was.

It was interesting to see how the internet community all assumed that it was leaked on purpose as a marketing campaign. I hate knowing the truth and seeing all the people, who are so sure of them selves, that they know whats going on. Wired even published a story about it. I'd like to sound a loud "HA-HA" to everyone who is wrong!

Hanging out with Mark, Eric, and Dave tonight - meeting at Hosu!

I've been inspired to update my "professional" site - blakecrosby.com. The only thing that has been updated recently was my resume. I think I'm going to stick to the same look and feel, but just update some of the content. I also have an idea for a website for Melissa. I took some body shots of her the other day (close ups of her back, feet, face, etc..) which turned out alright. The lighting in my bedroom sucks for this kind of thing though.

One of the new features of the Google toolbar is spell check. Not implemented the same way as the spell checker in OSX, but at least now you can spell check text you input in forms on a website.

I swear it wasn't me

I got a chuckle when I saw this in the February issue of Toronto Life (on page 68).

Got a weird piece of junk mail today from "Concerned Canadian Parents" (I cant find their website). On the front it says: "URGENT! A message to all Newmarket-Aurora Families". The inside is laughable. Im wondering how bill C-38 "will spell disaster for the moral nad social welfare of our country".

The Year of Concerts

It took me over 30 min to get U2 tickets. First two shows sold out in like 10 min, then they added a third, when that sold out, a fourth. I was finally able to snag 6 seats (two via the phone, and 4 via the website - which both happened at the same time). Two tickets are general admission floors. The other four are in the 300s. If anyone is interested in going, let me know (the 4 seats are up for grabs).

Here is what my concert sched looks like so far this year:

Thursday April 7 - Sum 41
Sunday April 17 - The Shins
Monday April 18 - Moby
Saturday Sept 17 - U2

This is by far the most concerts i've seen in a year.

Hung out with the boys last night after work, went to grab a bite to eat then watched "Some Kind of Monster". Great documentary!

Plans for today? I want to go to the gym, but thats about it. Maybe head to the mall to see if its not too late to return a cd I bought.

Luck of the Irish?

... and i'm not even Irish. After the gym, I headed over to a local bar to meet a few friends. Originally I was going to hang out in the city, but changed my mind. Those friends never showed up so I was walking back to my car angry when I saw this pouch laying on the ground. Naturally I picked it up!

As I was driving back home, I opened it up and saw that there was a camera in it! A Nikon Coolpix 3200. Unfortunately it uses SD media, and the usb cable is proprietary so I cant download the photos. There are a few, mainly of two people who I can only assume are boyfriend/girlfriend. I want to post them online with a "Is this you!" message... somewhat of an experiment to see if the owners recognize themselves and claim their camera.

The Final Bowl

I have gained almost 13lbs since last summer. In order to lose this weight i've decided to go back to my strict regimen of proper diet and exercise ;) No more slacking off at the gym (ie, back to 4 times a week) and no more bowls of ice cream or candy (*looks at melissa*). So I just finished my last bowl (decided to eat it straight out of the container this time). Rest In Peace Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

Had lunch with melissa today. The Jack Astors in the city is much more "swanky" than the one up here in Aurora. Leather armchairs, flat screen tvs (with ROB TV on it of course [sorta like the Canadian version of MSNBC]) and sexy waitresses in short pleated skirts.

I helped out two "damsels in distress" today on my way to the train station. They were actually quite cute too, I can't pinpoint where their accent is from though. They were probably in their early 20s. At the corner of Front and Simcoe I see them, with a huge map unfurled, blowing in the wind. I asked them if they needed help and saw a wave of relief wave over their faces with their smiles. They were wondering where they were on the map and where they could get something to eat. I directed them to King Street. Also pointed out where the nearest subway is, as requested. *brushes hands* my work there was done. I'd totally offer to join them for dinner and show them around the city had I not already been hooked up (*again, looks at melissa*)... ahh, the single life.

Weekend Alone? Naww!

I had originally planned on spending this weekend alone, alas, I gave into the power of women ;) Melissa spent the entire weekend with me! Played some Bingo, saw a movie (Hostage) and had some brunch with Gord. I was able to get some chores in though, laundry and a quick room clean.

Right now i'm waiting for my bed sheets to dry!

Meeting Melissa and her brother for lunch tomorrow.

I have been doing some research into online Travel Journals and found three sites that could be considered to be "direct competition" to what I want to do. Some of them come close to what I want to do, but all do it really poorly.

Things at work have been more on the crappy side than anything else. I guess i'm hitting a 3 year slump. This is the first job that i've had for more than a year. Some of the projects coming up are exciting, however there have been some things that I wish I could do (like speak at an Akamai conference in Boston) that I cant.

New website is on hold. Design is pretty much done, just have to finish up the coding/backend portion.

Almost convinced me!

Got a phishing email that I was convinced was lejit for the majority of the time I was reading the message (there is a copy of it here). What gave it away? The url. Hover your mouse over the ebay link and look at where it really goes.

It is important that users keep an eye on that "status bar" so that you know what website you are at, or where a link is going to take you. Moms of the world would easily follow something like this. The first step to identity theft.

Happy Birthday!

It's Mark's Birthday today!

Wish him a happy b-day!

Spring. It's mother natures period.

I now have a list of activites that I want to do. These include:

- Rock climbing
- Geocaching (I found a good multicache near my house)
- Tango or Ballroom dancing

I should have all three of those completed (or started) by the beginning of summer. All this to get me through the spring season. Since you can't really do much during this transition period. No snowboarding, no biking, to cool to do most other outside activities.

I also have an idea for a new website. I don't know what to call it, and i'm sure someone out there already has one similar. It would be a site dedicated to travelers who want to document their trip. Some features would include:

- A journal
- A map which displays the route/track they took from points (cities).
- A "find other travelers near me" feature. So you can look up other users (from your same country, gender, etc..) that are also visiting the same location you are.
- A scratchpad/address book to store information you collect along the way.
- Forum (to discuss items to other users).
- Provide links to other travel/spatial related projects, like Geocaching, The Degree Confluence Project,Wi-Fi Hotspot List, and Lonely Planet.

I dont know of any existing service like this out there. It would offer some nice challenges, like coming up with a GIS and mapping software.
