Sweating to the ringtones!
Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 11:06:18 Comments (1) | Permalink This entry is going to have something for everyone! The other day I got a call from someone at the Toronto Sun (a tabloid format paper) who wanted to know if he could have permission to use a photo on my photo gallery. I called back and left him a message. He never returned my call. Over the weekend, I decided to check to see if my photo would appear in the paper. Indeed it did! Thats Mark in the photo. I wonder if he could sue since he never signed a model release form ;) So how did he find my photo gallery? I'm thinking a simple search on images.google.com returned what he was looking for. My new phone arrived today! So far i'm happy with it for two issues: 1. The backlight on they keypad is white. However the foreground (the colours of the keys) is light grey. So when the back light comes on (which it does when you press a key) during the day... you can't read the letters on the keypad. One thing I do want to see if I can do is get some use out of the GPS functionality. New phones now have a gps module in them that can be used when you dial 911 to let emergency crews know where you are without having to tell them. On my phone there are two options, "turn on for E911 only" and "always on". The always on option lets you use wap applications to do things like "find me the nearest gas statation" or "I need a taxi at my present location". I think it will be neat to be able to post my current location on the web someplace so people know where I am when I want to tell them. My Mac Kernel Paniced today! It was the first time since I built my mac. Turns out the CPU was overheating as there was literally 3-4cm of thick dust between the fan and the heatsink. A little cleaning of that, some cooldown time, and we are good to go. I also decided to change the airflow direction so that the air is being pushed towards the heatsink instead of away. BBQ RSVPs are coming along nicely! Keep 'em coming. So far this summer has been crazy hot. The past week the humidex has reached almost 40C every single day! Snail Mail, 24 Hours, Sore Bum Monday, June 20, 2005 - 20:06:40 Comments (1) | Permalink | On this day in 2001 A new feature! Check it out (link on the right). Photos from the 24 bike race are also available for you to check out. Since my phone broke on Friday, work is going to give me a brand new Nokia 6585, w00t! €4.00 for a coke?! (oh and some photos) Sunday, June 12, 2005 - 13:06:40 Permalink | On this day in 2007 | On this day in 2003 I've just uploaded some "quick and dirty" photos (low res) for you to check out. I will upload higher res ones later. I look like crap in most of them :( Goooaaaalllll! Permalink | On this day in 2007 | On this day in 2003 Only 2 days left in my trip. :( Right now there is nothing really else i'd rather do than stay here. I am greatly impressed with Italy, the sights, the smells, and the sounds. Driving here is so much fun. There really is no concept of defensive driving. Motorcycles do what they want to do (including dis-obeying traffic lights) and you are required to move over onto the shoulder (in order to avoid a traffic accident) when someone passes you while another car is coming in the opposite lane. I'll post some photos when I get back.. as I forgot to install photoshop on my laptop. You will see how tight these streets can be when it comes to zigzagging your car around them. Off to catch some dinner... No Purchase Necessary Sunday, June 5, 2005 - 21:06:13 Permalink | On this day in 2003 | On this day in 2002 | On this day in 2001 There is a contest being run by one of the cell phone companies here. The prize is a VIP seats for a Avril Lavigne concert, among other things. I decided to see what I have to do to enter: 1. Purchase a Rogers™ Wireless device and activate it on a new 2-year or 3-year term service agreement and you are automatically entered into the Contest. 2. To opt-in to play daily music trivia, send a text message containing the message "PLAY" using your SMS enabled Rogers device to short-code 6464. Within 48 hours of sending the initial text message to opt-in and on each remaining day of the Contest Period, a text message containing one (1) music trivia question will be sent back to your device along with three (3) possible answers. 3.To enter automatically, purchase any downloadable ring tune via the Rogers Wireless navigate mobile Internet or from rogers.com/ringtunes. A one-time fee starting at $2.10 applies to each ring tune you purchase plus a 50¢ fee for the download If searching for ring tunes via the navigate mobile Internet, data usage charges apply. 4. Subscribe to any Rogers Wireless Essential Value Pack and you are automatically entered into the Contest. Or... if you dont want to spend any money, or sign up for a new account all you have to do is: "No purchase, expenditure or investment is necessary to enter this Contest. To enter without downloading a ringtune, or text messaging, or purchasing an Essential Value Pack or phone, handwrite your name, address, area code and telephone number of your place of residence (and contact telephone number if different), date of birth (for verification purposes only) along with a 100-word statement on "why Rogers Wireless and Avril Lavigne make a perfect combination" on a piece of paper and mail it..." Who the hell is going to do that?! Sounds like a essay question to me. I guess they really want people to spend cash to enter the contest eh? This weekend was quiet. It's been the 4th weekend since the last time I hung out with Mark and Gord. I've put a counter on the page so I can keep track of how long its been. Firefox, Weather, Hats Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 14:06:27 Permalink | On this day in 2003 | On this day in 2002 | On this day in 2001 I've been using Firefox exclusivly now on my windows machines. I had been "testing" it out at work for a few months and finally made the switch. I've also gone so far as totally disabling internet explorer, which you can do by using the "Set Program Access and Defaults" item in your start menu. I'm still getting positive feedback about the new site from users. Just yesterday Bryna said she liked the new design and the "a day in the life". I am going to be adding more features and fix some of the broken links when I get back from Italy. I suggest that regular visitors sign up to get automatically notified whenever the site has been updated. The weather forecast for this week is sunny all around. I am debating about going for a bike ride instead of hitting the gym today... I just might. Melissa bought me a new hat! Black, quiksilver with black raised logo on the front. Really simple. I wonder if I will have some time this weekend to do some shopping for some shorts. |
