Condos, Dinner, Moving Out

Had a wicked birthday.. just want to thank everyone for coming out downtown. A good time was had by all.

Dinner with the parents was good. This was the first birthday dinner since uhmm.. i'd have to say my 18th birthday. We brought the camera.. but didn't end up taking any photos. heh. Was my first time eating at Sassafraz.. excellent :)

I took this opportunity to tell my parents that I want to go back to school. They seemed happy with the decision - which made me feel better.

I still need to let my brother know what to get me for my bday. No idea.

Parents just told me they put a downpayment on *two* condos! Holy crap! They have 10 days to pick which one they want.. They wont be built for another 3 years. Both of them are around $305k, and just over 900 square feet. One of them is on Adelade, west of Spadina. The other is on Mount Plesant. Depending on where they are at in their lives at that time... they may move there or rent it out.

I was delighted to see people have moved into Phase 1 of my condo today! I noticed some people out on balconies and some blinds on the windows. They also have about half of the exterior brick done on phase two!

My car should be back from the auto shop this Friday. I also have a job interview with Tucows on Tuesday!

Hybrid Goodness

Normally I dont pick up the house phone when it rings, but today I decided to. The man calling was for my mom... he wanted me to let her know that the Prius was on the lot and she can come by and test drive it when she wants..

A Toyota Prius? Coooool... I'm going to see if I can tag along for the test drive!

I wonder what made them decide to go hybrid?

On this day...

What happened on my Birthday in previous years?

1880 - Sarah Knauss was born. She was the world's oldest person when she died at 119 years old on December 31, 1999.
1908 - The first factory-built Ford Model T was completed. The car sold for $850 (about $16,000 in todays dollars)
1929 - The first all-instrument flight took place in New York when Lt. James H. Doolittle guided a Consolidated NY2 Biplane over Mitchell Field.
1953 - The discovery of the antibiotic tetracycline was reported.
1963 - Puppetmaster Jim Henson is born!
1991 - Nirvana's "Nevermind" was released.

Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In the Wall" was the top song of 1980.
"The Empire Strikes Back" was the top movie of 1980.

Diaper!

Here is the diaper that I was talking about in my previous post. Cell phone and hand used for size reference ;)

Yet another car accident.

This weekend was filled with ups and downs. U2 was great! Getting into a car accident was not! Yet another stupid driver rear-ended me. The guy didn't have insurance either (or at least, the insurance papers he showed me were expired). What a waste of time. Both Melissa and I are fine though.

This is the first claim I make with my new insurance company. So far they have 1 strike... calling my house and giving up there when I didn't answer instead of using the DAYTIME number I gave them (my cell phone).

Melissa brought home one of the new Pampers "premature baby" diapers. I swear... maxi-pads (oh sorry.. "female sanitary napkins") are bigger than this thing. I'm going to see if Melissa can take a photo of it.

Thats about it for the exciting news :P Work is going good, the lock-out is still happening. Nobody seems worried what's going to happen when hockey gets going. It's still business as usual for me regardless.

My birthday is on saturday and after reading what Bryna thought 25 is all about, I attempted to think positive things about turning 25. I could only think of two. 1. Lower car insurance. and 2. Cheaper car rentals! Yippee!

Papa India Lima Oscar Tango

Ugh.. my mom is watching Canadian Idol. Thank god that shit is over tonight!

Nothing really exciting happening lately. Going to U2 on Saturday. I've decided to go back to school! I've been thinking of putting together a new website. Something similar to what this guy has done (but better of course). Just outline what i've learned that day in school.. it also helps me remember things when I write them down again :) I've already started learning on my own by getting a few of the required textbooks and started reading them. That combined with the "lessons" in MS Flight Simulator 2004 really made me understand the why we use certain things (like flaps! its so you can reduce the stall speed of the plane and fly at slower speeds, handy for landings!) and when to use airspeed versus attitude to control the altitude. *excited*

Im going to add a new feature section to this site. It's going to be a detailed look at my job. A lot of people ask me what I do, and when I tell them their eyes just glaze over. Hopefully this will provide some insite into what I do everyday at work.

Back from Boston!

Betcha you havn't been on one of these.

Everything went well. I spent 3 hours in interviews meeting the entire team that I would be working for. Everyone was really nice and were glad to finally meet me. I also got a quick tour of their Network Operations Centre which was spiffy as well.

HR is going to get back to me tomorrow regarding Work Visa stuff. Once I get the word on that then its up to me on what I want to do. The pay and benefits are great ($10K more a year than what i'm getting now). One thing that was interesting to me was their "Tuition Reimbursement" benefit. You can get some cash back on your tuition if you decide to go to school. Something that would fit really well for me.

Flights back were alright. This is the second time i've been on a Dash-8. The first time is when I went to Vancouver about 10 years ago. I counted 33 seats in this one. About 80% full too. It's funny becauase there is only one flight attendant and she's using the PA system when she could just talk to us normally and we'd all hear. If it wasn't for all these people, i'd feel like I was on my own private jet ;). Some amenties that are missing from your normal jumbo jet include reclining seats and a sink in the bathroom (or lavatory as those airplane people like to call them).
